As it is off topic for this list, I will only write this one message. The message to which you refer that was posted earlier today on this list is NOT the fault of GWM. Basically, the offender signed up for this list, which anyone at all can do. They then found a message from Aaron in the archives and copied his signature, pasting it into their email. Next, they simply edited their email address and display name so that it matched Aaron's information. This practice is not unheardof. On the list for the BrailleNote, a notetaker by Humanware, a person did this some years back, sending an email announcing a major software upgrade that, by all appearances, came from a member of Humanware's staff who sometimes posts to the BrailleNote list. The next day everyone was informed that it was a hoax and that no upgrade had been announced, yet the message looked like an official HW announcement.
My point is that "spoofing" is not uncommon and is not limited to this list. GWM's only other option would be to monitor and approve or reject every single post sent to this list, which would be a very large use of someone's time, time better spent dealing with users' questions and requests. I cannot speak to your experience on the Book Sense list; my only aim in this message is to point out that, because of the open nature of this list, necessary to keep the list effective as a forum and support tool, GWM has no way to stop messages like this from getting through, and they are not the only list to which this has happened (nor will they be the last). I hope this helps to clear things up. Though I am not a user of their products, I have always admired GWM's superior public relations and I would not want that reputation tarnished by an event over which they had no control. At least with Dir-En-Grey, they’d at least speak out against that kind of amoral crap if they did have any songs dealing with bestiality which they don’t. To clarify, I’m not a prude and I’m fully excepting of people with different life styles of the LGBT variety, but this crap is something else altogether! I’m on The Icon mailing list as well as the Victor Reader Stream mailing list and have never seen crap like this before and if there’s anyone out there who reports GW Micro to The Better Business Bero for posting crap like this, or even if it was high-jacking, it’s still this company’s responsibility to make sure it’s computer protection programs are working properly and are up to date. And even if it was malfunctioning computer protection programs, it doesn’t make much difference and if either way, someone does report this company for this garbage to the B.B.B., that’s fine with me, as I don’t tolerate screwing around from anyone who calls themselves a professional.
