Hello Joe, actually the limitation experienced by the Sense products is
due to a limitation of the operating system. This is true for any
Windows CE devices, Sense or otherwise.

The router is a Netgear model WNR3500L. This is interfaced
with a Arris
Modem model 602. This modem provides telephone and internet service. A
software known as digido pronounced diji do is also used. This
supposably
enables a customer service rep at Bresnan Cable to determine
whether a given
connection has problems or is working properly! They can check
the status
of most anything from their office! You can get info on digido
with Google.
I've gone round and round with cable over all of this! At
first they tried
to tell me I already had a TKIP connection and my PDA should
work. That's
how I referred to the VS. I then thought the SID was invisible
and this
wasn't the case either. Once I got my Windows Seven Machine,
it confirmed I
have an AES connection.
I have considered getting the router manual and the modem
manual but haven't
done so yet. I probably wouldn't understand all I was reading.
My friend
Hal in Great Falls moved to a different location and his internet is
available to his VS. I don't know what he has other than his router is
Alinksys. I don't know if it is high speed or not! He thinks
his internet
is faster lately!
As I pointed out in a previous post, I shouldn't have to worry
about all of
this! I should be able to connect and that is that! My internet works
wonderfully with all PCS in the house! We have very few if any
drops. It
truly is beautiful! The VS units have been left out!
I believe the Braille Plus or Icon mobile Manager may work on an AES
connection. I don't have this confirmed widely but this
appears to be true!
Cable company says I now have the most secure internet
connection available!
If I wish to make changes, I'd greatly compromise my internet security!
Perhaps put another way, it would be more inconvenient for
them. They had
all four computers working and internet going in fifteen minutes. They
didn't have to worry about router settings. I only told them
what my WPA2
security code should be and they fixed that up just fine!
Apparently this
digido software helps with the configeration of the router
being installed!
That's my understanding and it also helps them check the status
of things
from their office! If anything was problematic, they'd ask
about the lights
on the router which I can't see! I turn off the power to modem
and router
or disconnect cables or unplug modem from the cable itself and
this usually
gets me back on track! Our internet and phone were going down
every week to
maybe two weeks. Once the modem was replaced, this stablized
our service
greatly!
This is all I know to this point! Perhaps some kind of
Alinksys modem which
is easier to configer may work with the 602 modem I really
don't know! I
really hate to upset the apple cart since all works so well with PcS.
It would be nice to find a soulution for the VS units. The old
action tech
DSL modem can be picked up with the VS but it isn't on the
internet. I'm
not certain whether two routers can be interfaced with the
modem or not!
Some at cable make it sound like if I make changes, lightning
could strike
us! Leave well enough alone, it is set up! Whether I chat
online with them
or phone, they seem to be reluctant to talk about settings or
anything like
that!
I'm saying if a way can be found for the sense products to work
with AES as
well as TKIP, this would be a much better solution! All PCS 5
to 6 years
old connect fine with the present internet connection. When I first
connected my Windows Seven PC to network, I didn't have digido
in place or
installed so Pc connected just fine. I now have it on that Pc.
If I go to
a hot spot with my netbook, I turn off digido and I can connect
to hot spot
just fine!

James, what is the exact model of your router. Also, just because your
isp uses a specific router, it does not mean you are married to it. if
you give me the exact model, I can do some research for you
and find out
if it is truly aes only. I seriously would doubt that a
router firmware
would restrict its usage to aes only. Also, aes is not
specific to any
ISP.

or Braille Sense, I'd probably go Braille Sense. Humanware finally
addressed the wireless internal adapter issue so nobody has
to depend on
those wireless plug in cards. That was a big problem with
the M-power.
I have not seen the Apex so can't give you any feedback about it at
all! I have considered some other issues which I will speak about in
another post.

covered so many times that people aren't as forthcoming
with their
suggestions. I'm very familiar with the mPower, only somewhat
familiar with the Apex, and I chose the Sense line of products
because:
1. Closer similarity to the Windows environment
2. Logical command and menu structure
3. Mobile disk feature to avoid use of ActiveSync
4. Strong performing media player
I specifically chose the BSP because of the much quieter keyboard
than the Apex.
It's not that I want to send you to the archives because
I feel no
one is interested in providing you a thorough response.
It's just
that I feel the topic has been thoughtfully covered
before, and it
would be easier for you to read those posts and then
come back with
specific questions so that you get all the information you need.
Remember GW has a comparison chart you can access right off the
product page. I'll post the link below for your
convenience, but if
you can get your hands on a Voice Sense, I think you'll
find that is
truly the best way to make an educated decision.
