I agree with vicky here. I think that as long as a person is clear about the extent and limitations of their experience, there's no harm in giving advice. It's always up to the individual whether or not to take that advice. I have been in situations where I have not used a device, but where I have seen the answer to a question somewhere else. As long as I say "I haven't used this device, but what I have read/heard is blah blah blah" then it's up to the other individual to take my advice within the appropriate context.
