Hello everyone

I write concerning the expected UK Braille Sense software upgrade to version
5.5. I have heard that it might be released in two weeks. Meanwhile, back
in July I reported a problem playing MP3 files on my computer which had been
created on my Braille Sense:-

Message Thursday 8th July 2010 to ForceTenCo

"I made a recording on my Braille Sense in MP3 yesterday and wanted to send
the MP3 file as an attachment to an e-mail from my PC. I copied the file to
my memory stick and then plugged the stick into my PC. To test the file, I
then tried to play it using Windows Media Player which is the default sound
program on my computer. Windows Media Player could not play it because it
did not recognise it as a genuine MP3 file.

"I did get WMA to accept such files made on my Braille Sense in the past but
I can't remember what I did. I'm using the old 5.2 software - not yet
upgraded. Has anyone got experience of this and has anyone got a solution
or a workaround?"

Message 21 July 2010 from ForceTenCo

"Hello Karl,

"We have finally established what the problem is with your media files and
it in the windows system. We have found that whilst your file will not play
on a system with XP and Media player 11 it will play on a system with Vista
and Media player 11.

"So Hims are working on a fix for this and they will put this into the
update that is due in the next few weeks. We will let you know by e-mail as
soon as this is available and with the update you should have no further
problems. ..."

Well, I reckon the US version 5.5 build must still have this fault in it.
So do any of you in the US have problems playing such files in Windows Media
Player 11 on your XP computer?

Karl Farrell

Hi Soph,

There are several UK folks on here, so maybe one of them can chime in
regarding when and where the UK software upgrade is.

Also, we do have a couple people here using the qt unit. i think there
are some differences between the UK ans US software, but the general
units are probably about the same, so hopefully you can get the info you
need.

I never used any of the earlier sense notetakers except the voicesense
but there are several folks on here with the older units too.
