I think, if you read Chip's question a bit thoroughly, he was asking differences between WinAmp and SoundForge. Yes, seems he responded to the wrong thread, but far as I can see, that is what his question was all about. And as such, there would be a clear enough relationship betwen the two softwares.

Just to put in a word about the two softwares you were asking about:
I am not really familiar with any of them, since I have found other software doing what I want and need in the line. But far as I know, the main difference is, that WinAmp in general is a Playback softwre; whilst SoundForge on its part, would be a software for editing sound. In other words, there is a clear difference between the two, and both have their clearly distinct usage. To tell that the one is not needed, just because the other is around, would be much like telling 'we don't need buses, since we have cars on this planet'. No, I was not trying to be harsh, simply just stressing that they fill each their gap. Far as I know, you can't do much sound editing with WinAmp.

With the risk of having misunderstood your question Chip, and not knowing enough about the software in question; I do think this whole matter should have been in a different thread.

Yahoo Messenger is a chat/IM client, like Windows Live Messenger. Winamp is an audio player. I don't think these two programs are in any way related.
