Chip,
First of all, thanks for the feedback. Should of course have made sure things worked, before I told you it would. But that is what you get from being eager to help. Smile.

If you have any AVI file that you could send me, it would be great, as that would let me have something here for later testing. Thanks,

I have reported your findings to the developers of MaPlEr. That is the way the software has come this far - by frequent user feedback and request. Being a project of leasure time, it might take a few days for the team to get back with some reply. Hopefully there will be a workaround, and it could be implemented in a later version. Thanks again for your feedback.

And just to straighten things, in case you were wondering. No, I am not part of the developing team, or in any way ecconomically connected to the MaPlEr project. But for the last three years or so, I have been in close contact with the team, since I am the author of the translations into both Norwegian and Danish of their software. This has lead to me being quite deep into the history of the last few years, when comes to the software. I am further offering support for the Scandinavian users, and that is another reason why I would know the software and its characteristics quite well. But, as you just discovered, apparently not well enough. OK, that should confirm the fact - I am not perfect. Smile!

Since you made us aware of the situation, I will let you know, when I get a feedback from the team. And, if my memory holds, maybe I'll drop you a line if there is going to be a new release that addresses the very matter.

At least you got to have your hands on a piece of accessible software. And if for nothing else, it might just prove beneficial for other projects of yours. Did you realize some of the other interesting features of the software? Like the equalizer, that even can be set for each single track in the playlist. The same individual setting can be done for things like speed, pitch and volume. Or, the nice CUEING feature, that will let you cue forward or backward in your audiobook, like on the good old tape recorders. That's just to mention a couple of features, that did come around, due to user requests. Have fun!

Yes David, it was a problem with Mapler and .avi file conversion. I'll send
you a sample file.

thanks.

Chip?
Are you talking about MaPlEr giving a message when trying to converting AVI
files? Or are you talking in general cross different software?

If you are talking about MaPlEr, then let me take it to the developing team,
as this might need a bit of fixing. As I said, I don't have any AVI files
here, so can't test it myself. Would you happen to have any such file, that
you could send me, that I have a bit for testing? The team is working on a
new version of the software, so if it can be fixed, maybe there is a chance
to have them looking at the matter before that next release.

Sorry, if I have misunderstood your feedback.'

Thanks much David for the tip, but I don't think it will do this. I'm not
positive that the problem isn't me, but it gives a vague error message
(just
saying there was an error) each time that I try converting .avi files to
any
other format (even though it will play them).

Guess I'll have to do some real work and search the web.

thanks.

Chip,
I would suggest for you to give MaPlEr from
   http://mar-dy.com
a try. It should give you the chance of making .avi into .mp3; although I
haven't tested that particular conversion myself, since I don't have any
.avi files at hand.

If you go to the above website, and choose the first link, then scroll
down
to the download link, you will get a fully functional demo, with no other
time limit, than that it will speak out a message every 90 seconds. And if
you need any further help in figuring how to do the conversion, drop me a
message at
   [email protected]
and I will walk you through. The player is 100% accessible, being
developed
by visually impaired staff.

Bruce (or anyone),

I'm looking for a way to extract the audio out of .avi files and put it
into
.mp3 files. Would you know if Audacity would do this for me?

thanks.

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone has downloaded and tried Audacity?

It is free and has many plug-ins. As far as I can tell it works fine
with Windoweyes and needs no help except maybe in some editing features
which I have not tried.
I use it to convert MP3 to OGG and reverse...

Just to clarify, Sound Forge is a professional audio mastering suite.
It's an audio editor like a word processor. You can cut, copy, paste,
delete, move, fade in and out, layer, and so on. But the real processing
that sets it far apart from something like Gold Wave is that it comes
right
out of the box with 50 something processing plug-ins; equalizers,
compressors, gates, reverbs, and so on and so on. And that's just what
comes
with it. There are endless other plug-ins you can add.

I started scripting it ages ago. The MSAA implementation turned out to be
a
huge mess that wasted a couple months of my time after I discovered
exception after exception after exception wherein it would return bogus
information. So anyone interested in scripting it, be forewarned.

I keep thinking I'll get back to it, but my studio was destroyed in a
flood
and remains as gutted and empty as it made my bank account. So I haven't
much incentive seeing as I seldom use it any more and have other work
obligations consuming my time. And I got to know it inside and out prior
to
scripting anyway.

Regards,
Tom

so far, my look shows me an SDK for developing add-ons, which might be
hugely helpful for anyone who wanted to develop sound forge apps for WE.

Is this really needed though with winamp being available? I'm not
sure if they do the same thing or not, but thought I'd ask.

Hi, sound forge pro, or studio they are quite similar though pro has a
lot more when you consider the sound processing it can do.

I thought I'd at least have a look ... but I don't know anything about
it.

Were you meaning, Sound Forge, Sound Forge Audio Studio, or Sound
Forge/pro?
