Hello, I am originally from upstate New York and moved to NC last January. I did not do much riding this year and my body is paying for it. I really want to get back into riding again and have been reading your group's discussions for a while now. I need to get some fitness back before I start doing group rides again but I hope to join some of your rides in the Spring. I do have a couple of questions that a few of you may be able to answer though....
In New York, there were a lot of races throughout the year (when there wasn't 10 ft. of snow on the ground!). Some were just citizen races and some required licenses but you could race just about any weekend from May to Sept. They were just 30-50 mile cat 5 type races, but competitive and fun. I have not seen any races like that down here anywhere in the triangle area. Do they exist here? Also, how is the riding up where your club rides? I am down near Cary and the roads are pretty crowded and have no shoulder (much different than NY where there is 4 ft. of shoulder, they need it for snow removal). Are there open country roads in North Raleigh that are nice to ride on? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
