I would have never included an update on road conditions in my ride report, but, your's was succinct and offered all of the pertinent information.
Another big Wow! When I started this ride a number of years back it was designed to offer the Gyros a 'forum' where we could ride fast (relatively speaking) without having to suffer the indignity of getting dropped by the Kick's group. I can finally say that we are getting there! We are riding fast, and, better yet, I think that we are learning how to ride fast as a group! To have that many riders over 23 is something that was unheard of on a Gyro ride just last year! There is no telling how fast we can go, but it will depend on how many of us keep improving through effective training and, most importantly, competitive racing. We have never been a club that enters competitive racing events, and, thus we will always be limited on how fast we can go on our group rides. Also, as the season progresses there will be those who will continue to get stronger each week through challenging Tours (3MM; Bridge to Bridge,), mountain training rides, etc. Some will race, but, the Gyros get stonger by participating in the Tours, and increasing the length of our Saturday rides. But, there will be those who will not be able to keep up this pace. This means that the select group of our strongest riders will get smaller and smaller, and, they will be doing all of the work on our Tuesday rides. And, most will not be able to hold their wheel leaving a fragmented group and a return to the old Gyro riding tactics. Eventually we lose many of our strongest riders to the faster groups because our Tuesday ride no longer challenges them. I guess what I am saying is that I hope that this year more of us can continue to improve our form by participating in challenging tours, and organizing mountain training rides, etc. Maybe even a race or two. And, it would be great to return to a club Time Trial at Baptist (even with those annoying speed bumps...) on Thursdays, if, for no other reason than to see who really is the fastest Gyro! If our Tuesday ride continues to be challenging we will keep our strongest riders. We need to keep Logan, Steve, Tom, Keil, Chris, John, Claude and Smith, (Tony and Bert aren't going anywhere!) from riding a few feet down the street to join that group! Imagine how our club will be viewed if we have organized rides that accommodate those who want to ride at 15-16 all the way to riders looking for a 24+ ride! Nothing promotes a club better than that, and this should be something for our Marketing team to capitalize on! Tony, Bert, Gary, Dennis: remember when the Road Dogs used to call us the Geriatric Gyros? See you all on the roads in a few weeks! Ride safe; ride fast; ride for fun!
