Good morning Gyros,
Unfortunately I have to report that we had an incident last night with some
road rage and vehicular assault by a late model black Dakota pick up truck,
license TTT-6171. We were in a double pace line heading south on Raven Ridge,
just started our ride when the pick up hit the horn all the way past us and
pushed us with his vehicle to the very edge of the road. I was lucky enough to
have Hal next to me so I knew he would hold his line while I was squeezed by
the truck.
Then the same truck returned heading north on Raven Ridge and reinforced his
obvious short comings in life and hit the horn. We called it in to 911 and they
said a patrol car would be dispatched but that was all we heard.
Overall, the ride was harassed on just about every road by motorist last night.
There were obviously a lot of drivers really unhappy about their lives and
wanted to vent their misfortunes with us or the heat last night was just too
much for everyone. We must of have had a comforting appeal to all these unhappy
drivers since they all wanted to vent to us.
Anyway, Carol and I stopped at her favorite post-ride dining establishment and
there sat the entire on-call SHP staff for the county so of course me being the
law abiding and civic minded patriot, I pulled up a chair and had a chat with
them.
They confirmed that they heard the call come in but all 6 SHP were out of range
and could not respond. They did advise the following:
Can we identify the driver? If so, we can have a warrant put out for the
driver. I was not fortunate enough to see the driver since I was focused on
making sure I didn't get rolled under his wheels. But, did anyone on the ride
last night get any look at the driver, enough to provide some identification?
Please let me know.
If many of you followed the VeloNews story on the ER Dr. in CA that was jailed
for slamming on the breaks and caused 2 riders to crash into the back of his
vehicle, well, we need to make sure this precedence is supported and make this
AH's life difficult.
If you can provide some identification of the driver please let me know, I want
to contact the Wake County Sheriff and put out a warrent. We can't keep this
driver off the road but we can make an impression on him.
