Sunday recovery ride

Try it out for a few Sundays and get some feedback - I know some don't care to
ride on 98 even though it is short exposure. Just be aware of that nasty turn
onto Boyce because it could have loose gravel. No harm in trying something new
during the winter since we go slower and sometimes cut the route anyway because
of the cold or weather issues.

If you are peeved about shortening the route 2 miles just do about 10 hill
repeats on NIPPER to get extra credit!

Subject: [Gyros: 17046] 12/11 Weekly Ride Schedule!

  Gyromancers,

This frigid weather is really putting a damper on our rides and it looks like
Saturday will be the only good day this weekend so get out and ride.

A couple of points I would like to make about Saturday and Sunday's rides:

  1. The PLAN for the Saturday A/A-/B+ ride (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):

The rest stop will be in Stem. This is where the group will split meaning
that the faster guys can pick up the pace on the return flight home, if they
like. Subgroups will form naturally but my advice will be to get these
subgroups organized so that you can all work together. Up to the rest stop, we
will WORK AND RIDE TOGETHER as a group. We'll throw in some thrill on some of
the climbs but if you like riding off the front and ruining the group dynamics,
please find another ride. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED!

One of the climbs will be Tump Wilkins Road. Since this is just before the
rest stop, riders will NOT need to regroup at the top. Please go ahead and
ride to Stem. We will regroup at the rest stop.

The point to all this is to keep the group moving as consistently as possible
with as few stops as possible.

An option to our Race Team members - Racers and any other A riders that feel
they can keep a faster pace, (approx. 20mph average), can head out a few
minutes ahead of the rest of the group. That will allow any riders that fall
off the pace to rejoin the main pack. For the racers this route has a number
of county line sprints (CLS) to practice sprinting, plenty of hills and good
sections to practice paceline riding. This is your call.

  2. Kim's Sunday Recovery Ride - We would like to try a different route
to minimize our exposure on Carpenter Pond so please note the new route that is
posted below. It is only a couple of miles shorter but has more climbs so, for
those of you looking for a little more fun, you've got it. I am hoping that
Kim will give us his blessings and approval as I did not check with him first
to see if this was ok. Remember, this is a RECOVERY RIDE!

I have attached a Membership Form & Waiver for those of you who have not yet
filled one out.

And now, for this week's rides:

  THE PLAN:
One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a
target pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance
for the slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier
pace, you can move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest
group, the ride leader will check to make sure you can make your way back alone
or with another volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles whether or not
you're strong enough to maintain the pace. The general rule is that you should
be able to maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A Group, 18mph pace for
40-50 miles with the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for 30-40 miles with the B Group,
when considering which group to ride with. If you can not maintain these paces,
then it is suggested that you consider the C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to
the link above).

Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but
there will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is
more appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer
sessions, that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected.

To find out more about pacelines, please read the link below.

  Thanks, Tony
