Mary, I am no expert on the electric assisted bikes but I do know that many
of us in the bike biz have trouble adequately repairing them. Of course many
parts are standard bicycle pieces so are easy, but the electrical parts,
motors & switches primarily, are hard to replace and outside our skills.

Recently there has been a huge influx of Chinese made electric bikes that
are virtually throw-away commodities, very inexpensive and very short
service life. Without the support and backup (and warranty) from a local
dealer, these are too often a loser, financially. .

Please notice that the of the big three bike companies, Trek and Giant
barely sell them (and at a premium range of mid $2K & up) while Specialized
with not at all. There is a shop in CH area that focuses on that category
but I am not sure who they are, what brands they sell and what sort of
experience customers have had with them...

My honest opinion, caveat emptor.
