Dale Thanks for the thoughts. The bikes do have an MSRP of around 2k however I can obtain one for about $700; based on gas prices these days, my monthly gas bill is $200 per month so the bike would essentially pay for itself in a fairly short time period. If my commute were an hour or less I'd just ride my regular bike, but when I saw these I thought they might be economical and a good investment, but then again if they can't be fixed, that's a whole other issue. Apparently they can achieve a gyro pace of 20mph :-)
Welcome any other thoughts! mary _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dale Brown Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 6:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Gyros: 17334] kilowatt bikes Mary, I am no expert on the electric assisted bikes but I do know that many of us in the bike biz have trouble adequately repairing them. Of course many parts are standard bicycle pieces so are easy, but the electrical parts, motors & switches primarily, are hard to replace and outside our skills. Recently there has been a huge influx of Chinese made electric bikes that are virtually throw-away commodities, very inexpensive and very short service life. Without the support and backup (and warranty) from a local dealer, these are too often a loser, financially. . Please notice that the of the big three bike companies, Trek and Giant barely sell them (and at a premium range of mid $2K & up) while Specialized with not at all. There is a shop in CH area that focuses on that category but I am not sure who they are, what brands they sell and what sort of experience customers have had with them... My honest opinion, caveat emptor. dale On Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 6:07 PM, mary dorsey <[email protected]> wrote: Please pardon if this is a repeat.
