Very nice project. I wonder why you didn't include the fullness and
depth of the drape in the fashion plate though. But as you say, the
gown is simple and if that's what you're going for....go for it! It's
lov-er-ly. The hat is perfect too.
Isn't it sorta funny how in this period you see bias pleated ruffles
and the draped overskirts cut on the straight all the time? Even when
the fabric is a solid color. If the ruffle were on the straight it
would pleat better [the gowns I've seen will line the bias ruffle to
stiffen it, thus rendering the bias cut useless....unless of course it
has a pattern that you want on the bias like the check in your dress.
But like I said they do this even with solids] And the draped overskirt
would drape more gracefully if on the bias rather than the straight.
Curiouser and curiouser......

Subject: [h-cost] 1870 hat stuf
Hi,
I made my own hat!
I took an old hat made out of straw bands and took it appart to make a
hat to go with my bustle gown.
But I was wondering if the purple ribbon would be to colour
coordinated.
Schould I put more stuf on it?
Like ribbons or flowers?
The dress is very simple...
Would this hairstyle be ok for that time period?
I need to keep it out of the way of my bowstring.
