One of the ways I deal with wool in general is to hand wash it, then let it drip about halfway dry. When it's no longer dripping all over everything, but still damp, I iron it dry, which gets rid of any wrinkles without fear of water spots. It works best with worsteds, though, because with woolens it'll stretch the fabric out noticeably... fine if you plan to dryclean, but not so great if it'd mean you'd have to iron the gown dry each time you wash it!
