What is a sewing bird?

It's a clamp that fastens onto a table or counter, with a bird shaped clamp on top of that. The bird holds the edge of the fabric in its beak (clamp), acting as a third hand. It makes handsewing much easier and faster, especially things like hemming.

This is what I have, one in brass, one in silver.
