Speaking as a long-term, albeit fairly relaxed, SCA member, that sort of
outfit also occurs in the 16th.  (dang, but this is hard to type with a
pyrring cat in one's arms!)
At any rate, there are less-poofy doublets and such in Janet Arnold.  The
one dealing with clothing from 1560-1620.  Something more merchant/middle
class might be more appealing than something upper-class, also.
I must admit, though, that my first thought was also something more
eastern-European (Hungarian, Polish, etc.).  Or maybe something Middle
Eastern? Or even Mongolian? Or Norse?  All those cultures, within the SCA
time period, used pants....
