Hi All,

I am going to a series of lectures at Edinburgh Unversity entitled "European Mummies and Bog Bodies" and while they are fascinating to start with, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears this week. It seems that the oldest surviving piece of clothing made in needle binding technique (and in one continuous piece of yarn) is from the Tamir peoples, in the Takamaklen (sp) desert, in China along the Silk Route. The most intriguing bit is that the Tamir are Caucasian, and that this chap's burial (mummified, owing to environmental conditions), is from appr. 1000 BC and contained a beret made in needle binding (nalbinding) technique. A 3000 years old beret that looks like a modern one!

Thought I'd share, perhaps someone on here is as fascinated by this as I was. :-)
