I was looking through the November 1799 "Lady's Monthly Museum" for something else, and came across this: "To take Mildew out of Linen. Take soap, and rub it very well; then scrape some fine chalk, and rub that also in the linen: lay it on the grass; as it dries, wet it a little. It will come out at twice doing."
