Yes-- especially if you want to get paid!

There is a major difference in having to do a show (we did "Otello" , the
opera, with 2 Desdamona's with only enough time and money to make 1 dress)
and making garb/reinacting stuff for yourself. Take museum work. It has
little to do with making clothes, just saving them and presenting them for
display.

I think we are all too critical about costume work in films. The director--
and sometimes the STARS have a majority of things to say about what is worn.

For my period, the 16th C.-- there is so little left to see. We have to
guess about a lot, based on what has survived and what we see in
paintings -- and the paintings  are someone's interpretation...
Frustrating-- you bet. But what a challenge to us all.
