It's my understanding that you would need a special dvd player that
can play
the various codes. DVDs are coded by "region", just like there are
various
types of vcr tapes and players (PAL, NTSC, and the version they use in
France).
DVD region codes and PAL/NTSC/etc formatting are _not_ the same thing.
PAL/NTSC are different TV picture formats used in different parts of the
world. They serve no special purpose; they're just different. DVD
region codes are a way of attempting to enforce DVD manufacturers'
distribution plans (by making discs unplayable outside their intended
zone) and, supposedly, preventing piracy. This is purely a locking
mechanism, _not_ a difference in disc format.
Anyway.
It's possible that your DVD player can play all zones. It's also
possible that there's a hack available to "unlock" your DVD player-- if
you can unlock the player, you'll be able to play discs from other zones. .
