Before it was over, I decided that it is meant to be looked at in the same frame of mind as, say A Knight's Tale. The script was fantastic--both in the sence of wonderful/funny and off-beat. The color pallette, like the dance music and the hair, just a little peculiar.
This was clearly Venice in a not-entirely-parallel dimension. But I loved it anyway.
