20's gowns are structureless and you can make one in no time. The secret is
finding a great fabric. I'd splurge on something beaded and sheer and make a
simple silk slip with straps for underneath. I'd also forget any hip emphasis
and do a draped sheath with no belt or pleats or that kind of thing at the
hips. Do a straight sheath of some amazing fabric draped at low neck...a cowl
dipping in back maybe? Hem it to just below the knee....maybe inset a bias
diamond shaped godet on each side with the top point starting at the hip and
the bottom just missing the floor. Something like that.

Don't forget long beads, long earrings and a beaded fringed purse!

I have a paper pattern from 1926 [a very small size] that I made up for a
size 12 and it looked great. It's a sheath with 3 long very shallow darts
coming from the side seams. They are parallel and about an inch apart and the
upper one starts about waist level and goes to about bust point. The skirt is
a
circle and to just below the knee. It is attached at a low waist that dips in
a rounded curve CF. A very lovely line especially with the circle skirt. I
could fax you a drawing and diagram. It's very simple and you could no doubt
figure it out.

Check Butterick vintage patterns for a dress.... or something to rework how
you like. Remember.... start with a killer fabric.
