Exactly! Especially considering the era. The style hasn't just  
changed...it's been exploded out of the water! It's a whole different  
philosophy. And to a 
ball? This is not the 1970's yet, y'know. In 1927 you wore  a ball gown to a 
ball. Not a dinner gown or a tea gown. Society had dress codes  then. Someone 
showing up in a 1912 gown to a 1927 ball would be asked if they  thought it 
was a fancy dress ball, or why they were wearing their mother's  gown. It 
certainly would have been talked about for weeks....maybe months.
 
C'mon! There's a way to make every period look good on everyone. There's no  
need to substitute different periods! It's a fashionable affair for 1927. Do a 
 fashionable dress for 1927! You'll look great!
