I have learned that for a corset that is supposed to give only the proper shape a waist reduction of 4cm and a hip reduction of 2cm works well. If it´s the first time she´ll be wearing a corset, I wouldn´t try to reduce the waist much but give the desired shape with shaped seams. As a corset molds the body towards a round cross-section instead of the natural oval, she´ll look a lot slimmer around the waist with a not-so-tight corset. And you can always sew it tighter.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Just for my imagination: what bust-waist-hip reduction would you choose in this case? (Ho many cm smaller?) I usually make the bust about 2cm smaller than the measured bust circumference, the waist...up to 10cm smaller...and the hips - no reduction.
