-1, I don't use IRC. If that were the only way for me to contribute, I never would have, nor would I likely be using Habari as my blogging engine. I'm a newcomer and have only been using Habari for something like 45 days. The community that existed around the project played a huge part in my decision to adopt it as my solution, however, breaking into a community on IRC is a lot tougher than sending an email to a mailing list. I'd call it a gradual introduction, and now I'm actively working on taxonomy-related development for the project as a whole.
And, surprise! The entire process has been documented on this mailing list. I refer you to the "Taxonomy, MPTT" thread (http:// groups.google.com/group/habari-dev/browse_thread/thread/ 42af9205d07c5718?hl=en). Through this list I have had essential input from members of this community that have made that which I'm working on much better, simply by asking me to explain my approach, questioning something I didn't explain well (often indicating I hadn't formulated that explanation yet), or simple suggestions on things I've overlooked. Invaluable. And, in the future when somebody wants to critique or modify the approach I've taken, they'll be able to see a very well-organized thread of topics which discuss the reasons for why I made the decisions I did, and if editing will be able to avoid mistakes I made. Based upon the reaction in this thread, I don't think I have anything to worry about, which to me affirms the main reason why I chose to be a part of this community--the community. *grin* On Nov 3, 10:08 am, Owen Winkler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > This mailing list is a quagmire of wasted ideas that are forgotten or > are shot down before implementing anything.
