Hi.

Ok, Cedric seems to have multiple power sources for his notebook so he
offered me to use one of these.
Bad part is, Cedrics notebook is much older than mine and, of cource,
the power sources are not compatible. Fortunatly, both systems are
running on similar voltage (19.5V mine and 20V Cedric) and similars
power (90W both), so we decided just to cut the cable and put my tip to
his powersource. While reconnecting, I realized that my power source has
2 power cables inside the cord and one additional, smaller (data?) cable.

Now, I tested it - and something interesting happend: My notebook
started and, at once, complained that I am not using the orignal power
source, but some kind of crappy cheap replacement and that I, please,
buy a new one at http://www.dell.de. It also said, that I can use the
computer like that, but some features are not available or run with
reduced efficiency. In this case, it refers to the fact the the battery
won't be loaded (and maybe some other thing I did not notice).
This is very interesting, as the specs of both power source are nearly
identical (in fact, Cedrics is even stronger than mine). Thems like Dell
found an interesting way of convincing people of using original
replacement parts... (Right now, I don't care as I don't need the battery.).
So, it seems that this fix is ok like that until I can convince the dell
customer service that they should do something which justifies the
couple hundred Euros I paid for service and support. But if anybody has
access to a soldering device, this would be great (right now, I taped
the cables together - it works, but looks very crappy and unstable)).

Well, have a nice day,
cheers
Christoph
