Tsz Wo (Nicholas), SZE commented on HADOOP-1298:
------------------------------------------------
Hi Christophe,
>From my opinion, it is not clear whether using EMPTY_BLOCKS_ARRAY is good. It
>has its pros, but also cons. Say, some careless developers might change the
>code later on and incorrectly set "blocks = new Block[0]" somewhere. Then
>isDir() may *sometimes* returns false. This kind of bug is extremely
>difficult to be fixed. Good programming style prevents careless mistakes but
>this change might not.
If you only include the first three changes, the patch might be committed soon.
But if you include the last one, it may lead to a long debate. Anyway, you
need to create a *new Jire issue*.
Also, do you still want to focus on "adding user info to file"? Or want to
work on Hadoop in general? From my personal interests, I want to focus on this
particular issue but not others at this moment. Please let me know what you
are thinking.
Thanks.

> I'm working on adding a permissions model to hadoop's DFS. The first step is
> this change, which associates user info with files. Following this I'll
> assoicate permissions info, then block methods based on that user info, then
> authorization of the user info.
> So, right now i've implemented adding user info to files. I'm looking for
> feedback before I clean this up and make it offical.
> I wasn't sure what release, i'm working off trunk.
