I'm open to suggestions of specific registrars, which you have worked with, and verified that they give a reasonable service for a long time. Muli suggested domainsnext after working with them for a while. What worried me in your recommendation was the word "recently".First, I would like to suggest that you use another regsitrar, as there are plenty regsitrars that will charge you $8.99 or less (I recently payed that much for a .com domain). I used Mad Dog domains, BTW.
The point is that my time is worth more than a few dollars per month. I went for expensive Yahoo! in the first place, knowing that Yahoo! is a rather stable foundation. It was a quick-and-dirty operation, which I fix now.
Second, Those A records aren't too standard.I suppose you're right. But it has been working for a year with no known problems. With our vipe-master abroad for another couple of months, the last thing I want is to make changes. So thanks for the comment, but I think we'll keep it as is (forgiving Shachar Shemesh for making www.haifux.org a CNAME of haifux.org -- he knows what he's doing).
That sounds like a good idea. I think I'll make use of that.Third, I can offer you an NS service on vipe itself, and can point you at several free secondary NS services around, such as http://www.granitecanyon.com , for added redundancy.
Again, you may be right, but with all problems that we've had so far with the mailing list server, we better enjoy the stability as long as it prolongs...Fourth, the MX record will be better off pointing to vipe.stud.technion.ac.il and not vipe.technion.ac.il.
