Well, if you can mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] as we speak, then we can empirically
say that vipe is somehow exempted... :)

Seriously, the last thing I did at the Technion computer center (before I
graduated, therefore I left) was install mrelay. It was (mainly) to solve
the open mail relay problems the Technion had back then, I guess it is
solved by education now, and nowadays it is primarily used to
store-and-forward mail to unavailable technion host, and to prevent anyone
inside the Technion to spam anyone else (as it is the only machine able to
TCP outside at port 25). I think that it the setup, anyway, but it's been a
while (4+ years).

As for the MX-pointing-at-A-records thing, I agree this is rare, but it is
(or was) an issue sometimes. I guess MTAs got laxer when they were
confronted with this. Try a really early postfix (back when Wietse Venema
was even less pragmatic than DJB...).

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the Technion have a firewall that
doesn't let you send mail (port 25) to any computer in the technion except
mrelay? Was vipe somehow exempt from this firewall?

My own domain has this issue, and I don't recall someone ever complaining
to me that they can't email me because of this reason. Even "yahoo.com"
has this issue, by the way, so it's not like Haifux is going to be alone
in this.
