sound systems - kernel: ALSA was merged in 2.5, but it has existed outside of the kernel for a long time I think you should define what 'sound system' means. Essentially, each defines a programmatic interface and provides different drivers for common sound cards. ALSA has OSS emulation mode. xmms: maybe say a few words on why RH does not ship MP3 players?
