The meaning is that when using esd or arts, the dsp device is captured by
the sound daemon, and esddsp and alsadsp alow one to use old applications,
that are not aware of esd or alsa, while still enjoying the benifits of
esd/arts.

One wish to compile it from sources due to the following reasons:
A. Binary distribution violates a whole bunch of software patents.
B. Historically, there were long intervals between releases of MPlayer,
where large amount of new features were intreduced in the middle, so
compilation from sources was recommanded.
C. MPlayer contains a large amount of CPU specific optimizations. It
support run-time CPU detection, but this will harm performances. For best
performances, people will be better off using self-compiled mplayer.
