The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The days and hours are ticking away on Campaign '02...For political junkies like us,
next Tuesday is like the Super Bowl, World Series, your birthday and a great Van Halen
concert (even post-David Lee Roth) all rolled into one...We're gearing up big time
around America's NewsChannel and we'll do a huge blowout preview tonight...It'll be
worth delaying your Friday night social plans for sure (or at least setting your
VCR)...Besides what real party gets ragin' before 10 pm anyway?
Btw, you'll be pleased to know that Chris is honcho-ing our election coverage from 7
pm et until the "last dog dies" as Clinton used to say...Dig the cool election 2002
website preview site the hotshot Bratty-Go dot-com team put together...
http://www.msnbc.com/modules/tvnews/decision2002/?0cb=-11699446
Back to tonight's lecture at hand...Norah O'Donnell will serve as Chris' anchor buddy.
(That's another one of those highly technical TV terms for a person who shares the
set with the host and provides color commentary)...Shuster's got a "big picture" look
at Bush's campaign sprint and several of the hot senate races out there...Then we'll
go to MSNBC/Hotline political analyst dude Craig Crawford who's in Minnesota. That
Senate race is already starting to get ugly...
We'll go round the country with "boots on the ground" reportage from the en fuego
states including Florida, South Dakota, Missouri, Maryland, New Hampshire etc...Bush &
Daschle aren't on the ballot but they might as well be...
In the e/f block we got Terry Jeffrey and Carl Jeffers (their pieces appear below)
who'll do some big picture stuff....Terry will explain why he thinks Tom Daschle is
the Newt Gingrich of this cycle...Plus, did you see that testy exchange Bill Clinton
had in Eugene, OR with a reporter over bin Laden??...It's a hot sot (sound on tape)!!!
We'll play it...I hope..
Our friends at the Hotline provided this little morsel: "The intense pleasure many
experience from listening to Mozart's great D Minor Piano Concerto has much in common
with the deep satisfaction of solving a complex mathematical problem" -- Fed chair
Alan Greenspan (Wall Street Journal)
As my fellow U.City, MO High grad Nelly once said "It's gettin' hot in here..."
>From the Briefing mailbag...
"Dude, You're so wrong about U2. While Joshua Tree was a phenomenal record, Achtung
Baby is clearly their masterpiece" -Dave in Jersey
"What are you smoking, U2 are the still bringing out the best rock music there is."
-Kevin
"You were killin' me with the reference to U2!! However your reference to Dokken at
the end of the briefing helped me understand why you might say that. Long live U2!"
-Debra
"Dominic, dear, you are just too cool! :) Keep up the good work....oh, and you are
absolutely right about The Joshua Tree..." -Michelle
-Thanks for reading The Briefing, people...U2 is a great band and put on a great show
in '87...I respect them immensely, I just ain't down with their newer stuff..."One's"
pretty good though...D
Keep it Real...Dominic Bellone wrote, compiled and edited The Briefing in Washington,
DC

they take refuge in the familiar language of electoral mechanics.
