The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
It's the morning after the night before, back inside the Beltway, running on caffeine,
adrenaline and no sleep...Huge night for the GOP...Not since '94 have we seen this
kind of sweep...As our senior wrote in Chris' intro for tonight, "The American people
have handed Bush complete control of the Federal government"....We'll slice and dice
the results and explore what Bush's big Trifecta means for you and me...I'm pretty
tired as you can imagine and on the verge of crankiness so I'm not going to bs you
with all the deep, NPR style questions we're going to get into...You can probably
guess most of them...We've got one of the winners from last night on tap for the front
half...
In the back half, we'll spice it up big time with a usual fast paced, opinionated and
always fiesty all star panel (Ingraham, vanden Heuvel, Jeffers & Scarborough)...Don't
take my word for our hot discussion, read The Washington Post's ace tv guy Tom Shales
today...
Plus, which Dem head will roll and what's the future of the Democrat party?? We'll
break it down with Sharpton...
Also, Luntz is gonna kick it with us for some polling reax and stuff...
I hope y'all had as much fun as we did last night...Dig this, not only does Shales
write a boffo piece on our coverage last night but he gives a shout out to top
Hardball soldier Pat Caddell...
Shales: The liveliest coverage of the night was that provided by an extended edition
of the Chris Matthews verbal slugfest "Hardball" on MSNBC. This was by far the most
electrically charged channel, and its substitute for results proved the most
watchable. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A13793-2002Nov6.html
Kemp to Mortman on this morning's NY-DC shuttle: "What a night"!
Dominic Bellone wrote, compiled and edited The Briefing in Washington, DC...And
another thing, The Briefing nevers naps...
>From the Briefing mail bag...
"I was so excited to get off work early and dash home to watch returns, listening to
NPR on the way, thinking just what you suggested...it doesn't get any (better unless
you are actually working on a campaign)........had the coffee pot and a cheesecake at
the ready and watched Chris to the end and a little more"....Karen
"I just wanted you to know that the t.v. trays are set up in the family room, I just
pulled in a load of firewood from outside (it's a wee bit nippy here), shoved all the
newspapers off the sofa, and dinner will consist of salad and a humungo lasagna that I
worked on all day yesterday. I've got my fuzzy slippers and my flannel jammies and
I'm all set!! Bring on the results, Hardball style! Today is like heaven with
whipped cream topping for news junkies." -Cindi
"I am devoted fan of your show and a political junkie. I love your daily e-mails.
However, I disagree with your suggestion of sending the kids to bed early. On the
contrary keep them planted in front of the TV and discuss with them the importance and
privilege of exercising the right to vote. Expose them to the political process and
let them witness the democratic process...This is the night when the entire family
should be together eating pizza or Chinese food with Chris Matthews as their Maitre
d." -Richard

Post Food section...
In the spirit of teasing...The word "aperitif" has become a catchall term for any
pre-dinner cocktail -- those popular cosmopolitans and fruit-flavored martinis. But
let's straighten things out right here.

A great night for the GOP...Are you better off today than you were two years ago?"
Democrats asked voters, in the hope that economic discontent would lead to major
