            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Pete Williams fills in for David Gregory who fills in for Chris Matthews as we
explore two big topics tonight: President Bush's presser in the East Room with
Thursday night's Hardball guest Ibrahim al-Jaafari, who also by the way, is
Iraq's Prime Minister and the political fallout over Karl Rove's 9/11 remarks...

Straight from Atlantic City tonight is none other than New Jersey Democratic
Senator Jon Corzine who was one of the first out the gates to go after
Rove...Playing defense for the administration is Lone Star state Republican
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison...We'll hit both topics with them...

And we'll get perspective from two people intimately familiar with the tragedy
of 9/11: Kristen Breitweiser, whose husband was killed that day and Peter
Gadiel, whose son was killed that day too will discuss the meaning and impact
of Rove's remarks...

We'll do the daily political slicin' and dicin' with Stephen Hayes of The
Weekly Standard and Katrina..

And don't hit the party circuit tonight too quickly as we finish up the show
with the unique wit and witticism of political observer & satirist P.J.
O'Rourke who has a new book appropriately titled "Peace Kills"...

Looking ahead...Chris will have exclusive backstage access to the Rev. Billy
Graham's final U.S. Crusade in New York this weekend...As a matter of fact
we'll interview him right before he takes the stage on Sunday afternoon and
Shuster looks back on his amazing life...

On Tuesday we go in depth on the issue of religion in politics live from
Nashville at the Two Rivers Baptist Church.

>From the Hardball mail bag:

"Will MSNBC (hardball) Carry Tues PM LIVE?"

-Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles

Dear Roscoe, you refer of course to President Bush's address on Iraq Tuesday
night at 8 pm ET. Yes, Chris will be live from Nashville on Tuesday with the
most compelling coverage and analysis on television. I would urge you to tune
all the televisions at "Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles" if that be a restaurant,
to MSNBC. It would certainly be a classy mark of distinction for your ambience.

Best, Dominic

And our EP Tammy Haddad especially wanted me to include this little cutesy
exchange between David Gregory and Tom Brokaw on last night's show for those
who missed it:

GREGORY: Tom, final question is a little bit more personal. How is
life?

BROKAW: It`s pretty good. I`m -- I`m out there on the improv circuit
and I`ve got this great imitation of David Gregory I`m doing.

        (LAUGHTER)

BROKAW: I`m working on the eyebrows a lot and the shock of
prematurely gray hair and the little "Howdy Doody" grin. I think, when I
get it down, I will probably -- you know, it will work out OK for me.

        (LAUGHTER)

        GREGORY: Tom, keep at it.

        (LAUGHTER)

GREGORY: Tom Brokaw. Tom`s report, "The Long War," will be broadcast
tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on NBC.

I don`t know what to say."

I just ran into David Shuster at the Hardball First Aid station where he is
recovering from a shaving cut...He informed me that his package tonight deals
with the stories of veterans returning home from Iraq...You wont' want to miss
their remarkable stories..

It depends on the meaning of the word "throes" is: Cheney on Abizaid
contradicting him yesterday: "If you look at what the dictionary says about
throes, it can still be a violent period, the throes of a revolution," he said.
"The point would be that the conflict will be intense, but it's intense because
the terrorists understand that if we're successful at accomplishing our
objective -- standing up a democracy in Iraq -- that that's a huge defeat for
them." (Wolf Blitzer, CNN)
