The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
As President Bush traveled to the Gulf Coast today, Karl Rove awaited any new
word from Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and the Senate found itself in
a good old fashioned filibuster.
Tonight, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) plays Hardball with MSNBC
Chief Washington Correspondent Norah O'Donnell, who is sitting in for Chris.
Norah will ask the senator about pump politics, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR)'s
four-hour plus remarks on the Senate floor today about oil subsidies, the
president's latest veto threat, and much, much more!
Plus, Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will have the latest news in the CIA
leak probe. Is Rove closer to being cleared in the investigation or is the
picture less optimistic? Sol Wisenberg, former deputy independent counsel under
Ken Starr, also will be here to talk about the legal possibilities ahead in the
case. Here's a related report on Scooter Libby's case by Reuters:

Howard Fineman, MSNBC political analyst and chief political correspondent for
Newsweek, and John Harwood, political editor of the Wall Street Journal and
CNBC Chief Washington Correspondent, will both join Norah to talk about Rove's
status and the ongoing changes in the West Wing. They'll also discuss the new
NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that shows, among other things, a miserable
22 percent job approval rating for Congress, which plummeted from 33 percent
just last month. Read a poll report by the NBC Political Unit's Mark Murray:

Also tonight, Norah will talk to Jim Wilkinson, senior adviser to Secretary of
State Condoleezza Rice, about Rice's visit with Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld
this week to Iraq.
Tune in for NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams tonight to see his exclusive
interview with President Bush from the Gulf Coast.
And whatever you do, don't miss Hardball on Friday. Not only will we have DNC
Chairman Howard Dean, but it's time of course for the HotShots -- and this week
there will be a special bonus Celebrity HotShots!
