The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Hardball is back on the ground in New Orleans tonight for the widely
anticipated mayoral runoff debate between incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin (D) and
challenger Mitch Landrieu (D), the lieutenant governor of Louisiana. In April,
Chris and WDSU's Norman Robinson took to task seven candidates for a very
rigorous debate in the primary race. This time, it's down to just two
candidates and Chris and Norm are back to deliver another grilling. The debate
is live tonight on MSNBC at 9 p.m. Eastern.
But before we get to the debate, we'll play Hardball at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Eastern to talk about some big developments in D.C. today. Hardball
Correspondent David Shuster will have the latest on the reaction to the
president's immigration proposals on Monday night. NBC's Pentagon Correspondent
Jim Miklaszewski will join Chris with the latest on the government's release of
video today of the plane hitting the Pentagon on 9/11.
And Time Magazine's White House Correspondent Mike Allen will report on new
White House Press Secretary Tony Snow's first televised briefing today.

By the way, in case you don't know, Snow's predecessor Scott McClellan chats
with Jay Leno tonight on NBC's "The Tonight Show." Check your local listings.
Hardball Political Analysts Bob Shrum and Kate O'Beirne, who's also the
Washington editor of the National Review, will join Chris to talk about the
president's speech Monday night along with the latest on the trials and
tribulations of his administration.
Also tonight, to get ready for the debate, Chris will talk with Republican Rob
Couhig and Democrat Rev. Tom Watson, who both lost to Nagin and Landrieu in the
mayoral primary, about tonight's face-off, Saturday's runoff, and why they have
both lined up to support the mayor they were trashing just a month ago.
Plus, historian Doug Brinkley, author of "The Great Deluge," will join Chris
and Norm to talk about New Orleans' condition today. How well is the recovery
going?
