            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

A tense day on Capitol Hill today as reports of gunfire in the garage of the
Rayburn House Office Building shut down the offices for many hours, only to be
given the all-clear sign. Though the House was out of session, the Senate met
and confirmed the nomination of Gen. Michael Hayden to be the next CIA director
and Brett Kavanaugh to be a judge on the DC Court of Appeals.

Also today, US District Judge Walton ordered Time Magazine to hand over notes
subpoenaed by Scooter Libby's defense team, although the judge turned down a
request for Judy Miller's phone records, calendars, and notebooks. The New
York Times may be ordered to turn over other documents in the future, though.
Joining us tonight to discuss the leak case is Miller's attorney Bob Bennett.
Also a former federal prosecutor, Bob will share his thoughts on the
Congressional outrage over the FBI raid of Rep. William Jefferson's (D-LA)
office late last week. President Bush yesterday announced the seized documents
be sealed for 45 days. (Read more on that here:

For all the latest political news of the week, and for a look ahead to what's
coming up in Washington, we'll turn to New York Times Reporter Anne Kornblut
and Newsweek's Jonathan Alter.

Presidential Historian Robert Dallek, co-author of "The Kennedy Mystique," will
be here to talk about the Camelot legacy.

And don't forget our Friday Feature, Hardball HotShots. This week MSNBC's
Tucker Carlson, Norah O'Donnell, and Craig Crawford will share their thoughts
on the latest stories of the week.

On Monday's Hardball, a special Memorial Day edition of our show with Chris'
exclusive interview with "America's Pastor" Rev. Billy Graham, said to be his
last television interview ever just before he began last year's New York
crusade. We'll discuss how Billy Graham has led spiritual America through war
and crisis and led Americans to persevere during difficult times.
