            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), the frontrunner for the 2008 Democratic
presidential nomination, officially kicked off her Senate re-election campaign
today in Buffalo, New York. Is Clinton's campaign for 2006 merely a staging
ground for 2008? Could an easy race this year make way for a smoother path for
a White House bid? The AP has more on today's announcement:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/31/AR2006053101022.html.

Veteran Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson will join Chris tonight on Hardball to
talk about the campaign for 2006 (and what might happen after that). Check out
what Wolfson had to say in today's New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/31/nyregion/31hillary.html.

MSNBC Chief Washington Correspondent Norah O'Donnell will tell us what happened
at Clinton's formal re-election announcement today in Buffalo and what some
observers are saying is significant about today.

Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will have the latest fallout from the
FBI's Capitol Hill raid last week. Why did Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzalez and FBI
Director Robert Mueller threaten to resign? What is Congress looking to get out
of more hearings on the matter? The Washington Post has more:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/30/AR2006053001236.html.

Dee Dee Myers, former Clinton White House press secretary, and Michael
Smerconish, Philadelphia radio talk show host, will join Chris to talk about
Clinton's prospects and the broiling tensions on Capitol Hill over corruption
and investigations.

Also tonight, former CIA operative Bob Baer, author of "Blow the House Down,"
will be here to talk about Gen. Michael Hayden's first day as the CIA boss,
reports of tension within the intelligence agency, the effects of the Haditha
investigation, and much more. Here's what President Bush had to say on Haditha
today: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13065025.

And what's the distinction between a politician and a statesman? Chris will
also talk with author Barbara Leaming about her new book called "Jack Kennedy:
The Education of a Statesman." Who was Kennedy's inspiration? You might be
surprised by the answer.
