            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Back from Iraq, President Bush went to the White House Rose Garden today to
talk to reporters about his unexpected trip to Baghdad on Tuesday and the
future of Iraq. Tonight on Hardball, Chris will talk with White House
Communications Director Nicolle Wallace about the president's thoughts in light
of the top-secret trip. NBC News Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory,
Time's Mike Allen, and Newsweek's Richard Wolffe will be here to talk about
today's presser and the mood at the White House following the trip and Karl
Rove's relief in the CIA leak probe. Plus, Hardball Correspondent David Shuster
will recap the president's comments on Iraq and Rove. In case you didn't see
the president's press conference, then you can read his remarks here:

The president joked about being jetlagged today, but his attitude was upbeat
about Iraq's government and prospects. Do voters share his optimism? You'll
have to watch "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" tonight on your local NBC
station to find out the results of the new poll by NBC News and the Wall Street
Journal. We'll have a special sneak preview poll result on Hardball tonight,
but we can't tell you what it is until the show starts. So tune in to find out!

Also tonight, Chris will talk with Kate O'Beirne, Hardball political analyst
and Washington Editor of the National Review, about the Bush Administration's
efforts to win back the base. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke today
to the Southern Baptist Convention's meeting in North Carolina about the war.
The AP has more on that:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/14/AR2006061401021.html.

As Decision 2006 rolls on, Chris will talk about the U.S. Senate contest in
Virginia between Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and former Navy Sec. Jim Webb (D).
Virginia voters picked Webb on Tuesday to face Allen in November. Dick Wadhams,
Allen's campaign manager, and Dave "Mudcat" Saunders, senior adviser to Webb's
campaign, will talk with Chris about how Iraq sits in the minds of Virginia's
voters. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has more on Webb's win:

And don't miss Chris' conversation with Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-CA), the newest
member of Congress, about replacing disgraced former Rep. Duke Cunningham
(R-CA), the immigration fight, running again in less than five months, and much
more!

Happy Flag Day!
