The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The war debate erupted on Capitol Hill again today as the House argued over a
resolution affirming ultimate victory for the U.S. in fighting terrorism and a
pledge to complete the mission in Iraq. By linking Iraq to a war on terrorism,
did Republicans put Democrats in a no-win situation on the vote? Are Democrats
right that this debate is really a political trick for Decision 2006? To read
the text of the House resolution, search for "H. Res. 861" on
http://thomas.loc.gov.
Tonight on Hardball, Chris will talk with Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), chair of
the Armed Services Committee, and Rep. Marty Meehan (D-MA), a member of that
same committee, about the debate in the House. You can watch the ongoing debate
here on C-SPAN: http://www.c-span.org/watch/index.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) also will be here tonight! The Senate
approved $66 billion more in emergency funds for the Pentagon today. Will there
be a vote in the Senate on a timetable for troop withdrawal? Here's Frist's
statement on the new military money:
http://frist.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressReleases.Detail&PressRelease_id=2431.
Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and secretary of homeland security,
will talk with Chris about the debate over Iraq, the controversy over reports
of fraudulent funding at FEMA, and much more!
Plus, Reverend Al Sharpton and Ed Rogers, a former adviser to President George
H.W. Bush, will chew on the Iraq debate and whether the president is
effectively bringing back his conservative base in time for Election Day.
And don't miss Chris' conversation with the parents of a Marine being held in
the Camp Pendleton brig over charges of killing an unarmed man in an incident
in Hamandiya.

Finally, a correction: yesterday's briefing said that the "AP looks at the
illegal immigrants in the military gaining citizenship today." The word
"illegal" should not have been there. Here's the story again in case you
(still) missed it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13321758/.
