            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The Democrats take Congress. This afternoon, Sen. George Allen (R-VA) conceded
the Virginia Senate race to Democrat Jim Webb, shifting control in the Senate.
Go to www.politics.msnbc.com for the story and catch a special post-election
edition of Hardball tonight at 10 PM ET on MSNBC. Hardball Correspondent David
Shuster was following this contest on the ground in Virginia before the first
vote was cast on Tuesday morning and he'll be here tonight with latest.

At the White House today, President Bush and expected House Speaker-to-be Rep.
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pledged to find common ground and work together. Will the
President change his style? Read the latest
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15638502/.

Plus, would an earlier Rumsfeld resignation have changed election results?
We'll be joined by Senator-elect Claire McCaskill (D-MO) to talk about the
outcome of Decision 2006 and the new Congressional agenda. And later in the
show, we'll hear from Senator-elect Jon Tester (D-MT), who defeated three-term
incumbent Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT).

For more on how the White House will work with the new Democratic Congress and
the timing of the Rumsfeld resignation, we'll bring in Rep. Pete King (R-NY).

Then, Rumsfeld's out. Where does the country go from here? We'll talk with
Richard Hass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, about Iraq and the
Rumsfeld resignation.

We'll wrap tonight with a post-Decision 2006 roundtable. Time magazine's Jay
Carney; Kati Marton, former ABC News and NPR reporter and author of "The Great
Escape;" former Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) spokeswoman Lisa Caputo; and
political columnist David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register join Chris to talk
outcomes, the new Congress and a look ahead to '08. Iowa governor Tom Vilsack
(D) launched his bid for the Democratic nomination today. Read the latest from
