The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Black Friday took on a tragic meaning today as violence continues to surge in
Iraq. Thursday, more than 200 people were killed by car bombs in a Shiite part
of Baghdad. Today, the U.S. military is on full alert after six Sunnis were
doused with kerosene and burned alive. Police say the victims were grabbed by
Shiite militiamen as they left worship services. For more go to
www.politics.msnbc.com.
Join us tonight for a special edition of Hardball, live at 5 PM EST. We'll be
joined by NBC's Tom Aspell from Baghdad and NBC's Jim Miklaszewski at the
Pentagon for the latest on the violence in Iraq. Read more on the growing
death toll from the Washington Post
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/24/AR2006112400203.html.
Then, has Iraq fallen into full-scale civil war? We'll talk to Maj. Gen.
Bernard Trainor and Col. Ken Allard about the ability of the Iraqi security
forces to regain control and what continued violence means for U.S. troops in
Iraq. We'll also hear from the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson and
Republican Strategist Ron Christie for more on the politics of Iraq and the
efforts of the Bush Administration and the new Dem Congress to stem the
violence. Later in the show we'll bring together MSNBC Political Analyst Craig
Crawford, Newsweek's Richard Wolffe and Larry Sabato from the University of
Virginia's Center for Politics for a roundtable on Iraq and all the most talked
about political news of the week.
And it's not a storyline from the new James Bond movie, but a headline today
from London - we'll talk to former CIA Officer Bob Baer on the death of a
Russian ex-spy. Toxic radioactive substances were found in the body of the
former KGB agent who had rejected the Kremlin and even spoke out against
Russian President Vladimir Putin from his deathbed. Read more here

Plus, to end this Thanksgiving week, we'll be joined by Ken Fisher, chairman of
the Fisher House Foundation, about how the organization is helping wounded Iraq
veterans when they return home. Learn more about the Fisher House here
