The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Today, NBC News branded the conditions in Iraq as a civil war, a label rejected
by the White House. We'll begin tonight with the latest on Iraq from Hardball
Correspondent David Shuster. Then, we'll turn to Gen. Barry McCaffrey (Ret.)
and Dana Priest from the Washington Post. Go to www.politics.msnbc.com for
more on this story.
President Bush will spend the next two days at a NATO summit in Latvia, where
he's expected to press for more financial and military commitments from the
alliance to aid peacekeeping efforts in the Middle East. Later in the week,
Bush travels to Jordan to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki. We'll talk
about all of that with MSNBC Political Analyst Pat Buchanan and Democratic
Strategist Jenny Backus. Click here to read the NY Times on the debate over
the draft report from the Iraq Study Group:

Earlier this month, Senator-Elect Claire McCaskill (D-MO) won a hard-fought
battle against incumbent Sen. Jim Talent (R-MO). She'll join Chris tonight to
talk about how the 110th Congress will face the challenges of immigration,
taxes and the biggest issue - Iraq. The Washington Post predicts the new
Congress may proceed slowly with policy changes:

Later in the show we'll hear from Time's Jay Carney and Tony Blankley from the
Washington Times for more on the new Congress...plus a post-midterm look at
President Bush and the prospects for 2008. Check out Peter Baker from the
