            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Former White House counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara
Taylor have been subpoenaed to testify before Congress on their roles in the
U.S. attorney scandal. Is Karl Rove - the man dubbed "Bush's Brain" - next in
the Democratic crosshairs? And in more White House news, former RNC head Ed
Gillespie will replace Dan Bartlett, Bush's longest-serving aide, as White
House counselor. Will fresh blood bring new life to the ailing Bush
administration? We'll hear from Minority Whip Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) about
what's next for his party and NBC's David Gregory will have the latest from the
White House.

Then, tonight's Hardball Debate - the Senate Judiciary Committee subpoenas for
Harriet Miers and Sara Taylor: witch hunt or legitimate inquiry? Attorney Joe
diGenova and Richard Ben-Veniste, former Watergate Task Force chief, face off.

Plus, we'll have the latest '08 numbers from our new NBC poll. And the news
everyone's talking about today: Dan Rather takes on "soft" news and Katie
Couric. Is Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)'s campaign battleship tanking? And Steven
Spielberg gives Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) the thumbs up, but in the race for
'08, who really owns Hollywood? We'll sort through it all with the Hardball
Panel: the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson, Matthew Continetti from The
Weekly Standard, and Time.com's Ana Marie Cox.
