The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
First up - the bailout is defeated!
Today the House voted 228 to 205 to reject a $700 billion Wall Street package
that was backed by Congressional leadership and the Bush administration.
Democrats are blaming Republicans, Republicans are blaming Democrats and the
DOW has dropped over 700 points. We'll talk to Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) and
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) to find out what happened today and what lies ahead.
Next - is Palin an asset or a liability? With Gov. Palin becoming a frequent
butt of jokes on "Saturday Night Live," are voters having a hard time
distinguishing between fiction and reality? Who is Sarah Palin? Is she the
confident candidate who wowed Republicans at the convention or the candidate
that fumbled an interview with Katie Couric? We'll take a look at the
Palin-factor with MSNBC Political Analyst Michelle Bernard and Salon's Joan
Walsh.
And looking ahead, which Sarah Palin is going to show up at Thursday's debate
with Joe Biden? We'll ask strategists Democrat Steve McMahon and Republican
Todd Harris about what Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden need to do this week.
Plus on the Hardball Sideshow, a tribute to Hollywood great Paul Newman.
Then in the Politics Fix - does Barack Obama still have a problem with
blue-collar voters? He's doing better in Southern and Western states, but he's
still struggling with ethnic voters in northern states like Pennsylvania, Ohio
and Michigan. We'll look at the NBC's newest electoral map with NBC Political
Director Chuck Todd and Radio Talk Show host Michael Smerconish.
