I remember watching a documentary about Albert Einstain on the Science
Channel where they talked about how he would daydream (dream?) about
riding along on light beams. Certainly, I don't want to compare myself
to Einstein, but in a very real sense, what we've been talking about is
the nature of time in computation and (drum roll) the relativity of
time and space. In a very real sense, I think the procedural model is
very much like Newtonian world view in which time (or, in our case, the
program counter, is privileged).
