Let's just say that I consider this to be poor design. > > ... > Will new style X-refs let you synchronize two files? > The way that you phrase the question is interesting. Can a new style cross-reference be used to ensure that the files are synchronized? Yes. Can they be used to force a particular sequencing of actions? Probably not. Questions like this always provoke controversy. After all, you might ask, what right does this Greg Woodhouse guy have to say that such and such a programming practice is a bad idea? What IS a bad idea? We all have our own ways of developing programs and things we feel strongly about, and this is one of mine. I can point out some of the consequences of a design choice and add that I think they provide a convincing case that the practice should not be used. Someone else can come along and argue that the benefits of a design strategy are enough to outweigh the cost. That's where prescriptive statements, such as the one I make above, are bound to remain controversial, But, I hope that what I have said of a descriptive nature regarding the consequences of this design choice will not be judged to be similarly controversial. === Gregory Woodhouse <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> "If you give someone Fortran, he has Fortran.
