Subject: [H] Can't find CD drives

OK I feel like this is a computer 101 question, but here goes.

Windows XP Pro SP1 can't see my CD drives in Explorer, My Computer, or any Windows programs. But they show up > in Device Manager as normal. I have deleted them & restarted as well as reinstalled the IDE controller. It wasn't showing > up in Device Manager until I reinstalled it. After multiple restarts no joy!!

I would boot to a bootable floppy disk or CD that has CD Device drivers on it and loads them into RAM. This enables you to ascertain if you have a hardware problem or a Windows problem. If the CD Device(s) work this way, I would say you have a Windows problem.
