I guess it depends. I have had better luck with Riteks then almost anything

Riteks (2Xs) I burned in '03 that are still perfect. And once I began
keeping backup on DVD-R, I've always used Ritek. *shrug*

This is not to denounce Verbatim, I have no negative experience with them
either. Really, the only Negative DVD-R media I've ever seen is
K-Hypermedia, which I found to be junk. But I've always went: T-Y #1, Ritek
as my #2, #3 Princo.

And I've always had incredible luck. Is there a source you have with
documented issues with Ritek/burners?

Ritek has usually (always?) been cheap Taiwan-made discs. They happened to
have an unusually good line with the 4X DVD-Rs (G04 dye code). A quick Google
will turn up huge issues with media reliability with the very last few batches of G04s and the G05s in general; users reported getting great media analysis results which rapidly deteriorated over the course of anywhere from a month to a few at the most.

Personally, my prefs are : 4X DVD-R = Ritek G04 (older batches), 8X DVD-R = genuine
Taiyo Yuden TYG02s, DVD+R DL = Verbatims.

Just a quick heads up, there was a great deal on Verbatim dual-layers for ~$2.50/disc shipped about a month back. I'm kinda hoping that I will be able to snag some for
$1.75 - $2 real soon :)
