My son who is 15, has had a cheapo 512 MB MP3 player for a while. Been
using limewire to "acquire" music. Wanted to tell him to not "acquire"
music because of the problems that can bring about but I had "acquired"
music this way in the past so I didn't want to be a hypocrite.
For Christmas I got him CL Zen Micro (5 gig one). I also got a year
subscription to Yahoo music to go for $119. Because we went to
nowheresville, VA I installed the Yahoo stuff and got some music on the
player so that he could use it after it was opened. While getting some
music on it, I learned that you can run the yahoo software from 3
computers. To make a long story short, my plan was to get 2 more micros for
Jamie and I. But after some thought, I didn't think I would be happy with
just 5 gigs after having a 40 gig (w/3500 songs) Zen Xtra. So I went to
look at the compatible player list and low and behold, CL has a new
firmware update that allows the use of Yahoo unlimited and I can use more
then one mp3 player with the service.
So not only do I get to tell the kid to "knock it off, use this" but I get
to pack the Xtra with tons of music.
So if you have a Zen Xtra and you thought you couldn't use it with music
services and you would need to buy a new unit, well, you don't.
